Faculty Spotlight: Maria Vladoiu
Maria Valdoiu, PhD, is a new Clinical Laboratory Scientist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology & Molecular Medicine. Vladoiu completed her PhD training in Laboratory medicine and pathobiology at University of Toronto and The Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto, Ontario) working on uncovering tumour heterogeneity and cellular origins of pediatric cerebellar tumours using single cell RNA-seq. After graduating, she completed the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) fellowship in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, Texas). In addition to clinical oncology diagnosis, she also has an interest in RNA-seq and its utility in supporting clinical diagnostic interpretations in both prenatal and postnatal samples.
Q. What is your specialty and why did you choose it?
A. “As a clinical laboratory scientist, my main specialty lies in molecular and cytogenetics diagnostics focused on unravelling the genetic complexities of various cancers. The ultimate goal is to provide accurate and comprehensive genetic diagnoses that will aid the clinical teams in delivering targeted and personalized treatments for the optimal care to cancer patients.”
