Education

Education is a top priority for all members of our department and we are proud of the variety of highly skilled educators in our Department.  Our faculty contribute to education in Undergraduate programs, the MD program, Graduate and Postgraduate training programs.  Our Department hosts fully accredited Royal College residency programs in Anatomical Pathology, General Pathology, Medical Biochemistry and Medical Microbiology, and a Royal College AFC program in Transfusion Medicine.  We have recently launched Fellowships in Advanced Laboratory Coagulation/Hemostasis, Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Genetics and Medical Microbiology. This section of our website highlights the main programs in which our faculty teach.

Our educational mandate is overseen by the Associate Chair of Education, and Department Education Coordinator (DEC), Dr. Cheryl Main.  Dr. Main is a Medical Microbiologist and Infectious Disease physician who works at the Hamilton General Hospital site.  She is the former Program Director for the Medical Microbiology resident training program and is currently the Chair of the Infectious Disease Specialty Committee for the Royal College.
