The recent Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (AMMI Canada) conference, held in Vancouver from April 9-12, 2024, was a resounding success for McMaster University. Joy Heifetz, a medical student under the guidance of Dr. Deb Yamamura, secured the 2024 AMMI Canada Poster Award for her work on the impacts of COVID-19 on fungal infections in Canadian intensive care units.

Dr. Sonya J Ramondino (PGY-5 Infectious Diseases/Medical Microbiology) and Dr. Clayton Hall (PGY-3 Medical Microbiology) also received recognition for their research posters, with Ramondino winning the CCM Student Poster Award and Hall taking home the Dr. Kenneth Rozee Memorial Student Poster Award.
